Private Practice Start Up Basics
Are you newly licensed or looking to move from your current employment and start your own mental health practice?
If so, congratulations! Building your own business is an exciting and rewarding adventure. It can also be overwhelming and scary if you have no business training and have limited understanding of what you need to do to get things started on the right foot.
I know this from personal experience. I went from totally CLUELESS psychologist with an idea for my own practice, to owning a thriving mental health business that allows me to work with clients I enjoy, make a good living, work from home 2 days a week, all with minimal stress.
If that sounds good to you, please know that I did not get to this place overnight. It took some time and energy to learn the business side of practice because I couldn’t find an easy, informative primer on the basics of the mental health business.
Sure there were books that told me about the ethics code (as if the detailed, semester long classes I took on this were not enough), or how to keep costs low for making copies (Yes, whole paragraphs in an expensive business book on how to make copies…..). But no one was able to give me the basic nitty gritty steps to get my practice up and running and profitable.
Since no one has done this well, I figured I may as well be the one to get the party started. Now that I have been-there-done-that and created the my ideal practice that once had an 8 week wait list (I’ve got that under better control now) I want to share what took me years to learn in a one intensive course I call:
Private Practice 101:
Start Up Basics
Who is this for?
The program is for the newly licensed or those desiring to leave their current employment and start an independent private practice.
Who won’t find this helpful?
If you are already running your own practice and have an office, a business presence online, HIPAA compliant intake paperwork and get paid on a regular basis by clients and/or insurance companies, this course is too basic.
What will I learn?
In 5 classes we will discuss:
- Why bother starting a practice? What drives your desire to build your own business? And what sets you apart from your competition?
- Start-up Basics: A Place to Call Your Own and how to Pay for It
- Legal Stuff: Lots of Insurance, Forms, Files and HIPAA
- Clients: Attracting and Keeping Them
- Mini-Marketing Lesson (Marketing is HUGE topic. In this class we’ll touch on the basics you need to get started.
How will I learn?
All content will be delivered digitally, by email to your inbox.
The content includes MP3 audio links that you can listen to on your computer, or download to listen on your iphone/smartphone or MP3 player.
You will also receive workbooks for each lesson that you can download, print and use at home.
When does this class take place?
As soon as you register, you will receive the first lesson audio and workbook.
After that lessons will arrive in your email box every 2-3 days.
What are people saying about Private Practice 101?
“I started my private practice just under one year ago, but I participated anyway, as I figured I’d pick up some useful tips, and I did. I have 3 business-related degrees (2 undergrad, 1 grad.); still starting my private practice was a challenge. So many moving parts! I would have loved to have had a one-stop place to guide me through all the things to consider. Most if not all of the topics you covered were ones I’d come up with on my own, but it took a lot of brain work and diligence to get there. It would have been so much easier and less taxing to have had your series back then – something to rely on to catch all the moving parts. I extend many thanks and believe your workshop will be of great value to others starting out.”

How much does it cost?
The 5 audios (each 40 to 60 minutes long) and workbooks delivered to your inbox will cost:
$97
If you are currently seeing clients, one or two billable hours will pay for this course in full. If you are not seeing clients, the course will help you get a head start, saving you time and money on trying to track down all of this information on your own. The truth is, it costs some money to start a practice and it is an investment in your career and future. And remember, it took me years to track down all of this information, which limited my ability to quickly start my practice and build a sustainable income.
So, for $97 you will save time, money and get ALL the information you need to get started building your practice.
And I put my “It Must Be Helpful or your money back” guarantee behind this program. If, after you receive the first two audios/workbooks, you feel this is not a useful program for you, just let me know and I will return your money, no questions asked.
I think that about covers it!
